Medicare reimbursement on screening PSA is subject to several rules recently issued by the Health Care Finance Administration (HCFA). The screening PSA test is to be ordered in the absence of signs and symptoms of disease.
Due to potential assay interference, do not collect samples from patients receiving high dose biotin therapy (i.e. >5 mg/day) until at least 8 hours (optimally 24 to 72 hours) following the last dose.
