Clinical Significance
Microalbuminuria is characterized by urinary albumin excretion above normal levels in the absence of clinically detectable nephropathy. Mildly increased excretion of albumin has been recognized to be a predictor of impending development of clinical renal disease in patients with hypertension or diabetes mellitus.
