Instructions
Avoid hemolysis. Allow to clot in an upright position for 30 minuties. Centrifuge for at least 10 minutes. Keep tightly stoppered.

Original tube preferred, may be sent in a screw-top transfer tube.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Hemolysis, Lipemia, incorrect specimen type, insufficient sample volume, improper storage conditions, exceeds specimen stability guidelines, contaminated sample.

Clinical Significance
Immunofixation is useful in characterizing M components identified by protein electrophoresis. Quantitation of immunoglobulins provides an assessment of the magnitude and measure for monitoring the M component.
