Preferred Specimen
4 mL plasma K3EDTA (lavender top) tube - MUST draw 2 lavender top tubes


Minimum Volume
3 mL plasma -- Must draw 2 lavender top tubes


Instructions
Avoid hemolysis. Invert a minimum of 8 times. Centrifuge the tube for at least 10 minutes. Transfer plasma to a plastic transport tube within 24 hours of collection.


Transport Container
K3EDTA (lavender top) tube or plastic tranport tube


Transport Temperature
Plasma Frozen or Refrigerated


Specimen Stability
Room Temperature =24 hours
Refrigerated = 5 days
Frozen = 3 weeks


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
If whole blood is stored longer than 24 hours at room temperature.
