DRAW 1 NA CITRATE(LIGHT BLUE) TOP TUBE, *** TUBE HAS TO BE FULL TO THE LINE. ANYTHING BELOW THAT NEEDS TO BE REDRAWN.SPECIMENS DRAWN FROM HEPARINIZED LINE MUST BE PURGED WITH 15 ml BLOOD. TUBE MUST BE ADEQUATELY (AT LEAST 90%) FILLED, MIXED BY GENTLE INVERSION, NO HEMOLYSIS AND DELIVERED IMMEDIATELY TO LAB.

Specimen Stability
Samples good for 24hrs from time of collection in an unopened tube at room temperature. Since storage at refrigerated temps may result in cold activation of factor VII, blue tops when being transported should not be placed directly on ice packs or ice.

Clinical Significance
Screening test for abnormalities of coagulation factors that are involved in the extrinsic pathway. Also used to monitor effects of Warfarin therapy and to study patients with hereditary and acquired clotting disorders.
