Preferred Specimen
One 5 mL gray top tube
Pediatric: One grey top microtainer


Other Acceptable Specimens
Light green top, dark green top, red top, or gold top tube


Instructions
Patient should fast for twelve hours prior to sample collection.

Sample must be centrifuged within 2 hours of collection or within 4 hours if drawn in a Gray Top tube. Samples collected in a red (serum) or dark green (heparin) or gray (sodium fluoride) top tube must be removed from the red cells and put into aliquot tubes following centrifugation.

Patient illness during testing.Fasting specimen greater than or equal to 126 mg/dL.
