Nasal swab using ESwab
Instructions
Nasal Swabs should be collected using ESwab (Liquid Amies Elution Swab).
Specimens delivered immediately to Microbiology immediately following collection.
Sample anterior nares bilaterally by inserting swab 2-4 cm and rotating 360° along entire mucosal surface of each nostril. Swab is then inserted into liquid transport and broken at
score mark. To prevent contamination, take care not to handle the swab beneath the red score mark

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Non-validated sample type ,specimen container not labeled properly, broken specimen container, sample greater than 7 days since collection, of frozen samples.

Nasal swab specimens are analyzed by the Genexpert, using the Xpert MRSA NxG. This is an FDA approved assay.
