When "Lactic Acid with Reflex" (LAB1237164) is ordered, a baseline lactic acid level will be measured.
If the baseline lactic acid is >2.0 mmol/L, a follow-up lacticacid test will be automatically ordered, with a collect time 2 hours in the future.
If the baseline lactic acid is < 2.0 mmol/L, no reflexive follow-up test will be ordered. Any additional testing would be ordered by the care team.
If the baseline lactic acid is >2.0 mmol/L, a follow-up lacticacid test will be automatically ordered, with a collect time 2 hours in the future.

One 4 mL gray top tube on ice
Pediatric Volume: One gray top microtainer on ice.

Instructions
Sample should be immediately placed on ice after collection and transported to the lab without delay. Sample must be centrifuged immediately after collection. Serum/Plasma must be removed from the red cells and put inot aliquot tubes following centrifugation.
