Instructions
Sample must be centrifuged within two hours of collection. Serum/plasma (red or dark green top tube) must be removed from the red cells and put into aliquot tubes following centrifugation.

Clinical Significance
Salicylate levels are drawn when toxicity is suspected. Peak levels occur 2 hours after ingestion, but levels may not begin to rise until 5-6 hours after ingestion. Serum levels should be measured every 2 hours until 2 consecutive levels show a decrease from the peak measurement.
Consider monitoring for changes in renal function, potassium, and bleeding.
