Color, Character, Specific Gravity, pH, Protein, Nitrite, Glucose, Leukocyte, Ketones, Blood, Urobilinogen, and Bilirubin. Microscopic analysis is performed.


Preferred Specimen
Urine, random specimen in a clean plastic sterile collection cup 

Ruby only- Transfer urine into a non-additive yellow top BD vacutainer tube, if available. A BD UA preservative Tiger top tube may also be used but is not preferred. Submit both the cup and BD tube for testing.


Minimum Volume
6 mL urine(Adult)
Pediatric: 3mL urine


Transport Temperature
Refrigerated


Specimen Stability
Ambient: 2 hours  
Refrigerated: 24 hours


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Reject Due to: Contaminated sample or a samplethat has been at room temperature more than 2 hours.
