KRAS MUTATION ANALYSIS, TUMOR WITH EXTENDED RAS/RAF REFLEX
MessageIf the sample is negative for a KRAS mutation (GLY12ALA, GLY12ASP, GLY12ARG, GLY12CYS, GLY12SER, GLY12VAL, GLY13ASP), then reflex testing for extended RAS/RAS will be performed at additional cost.
Test Code
81
Includes
Identifiying colorectalconcers (CRC) without KRAS mutations thay may respond to tyrosinekinase inhibitor (TKI) therapies.
Preferred Specimen
- Tumor Tissue from ColorectalCancer
- Tumor tissue embedded in a formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded(FFPE) block
- Core biopsy: 10 unstained, 5 micron thick sections,nonbaked
- Larger tissue sections: 3 unstained, 5 micron thicksections, nonbaked
Other Acceptable Specimens
- Lung cancer (FFPE)
- Other cancer (FFPE)
Instructions
UML Lab Processing Instructions: Transport specimens to the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory
WVUH Lab Processing Instructions: Slides will be brought to the Main Laboratory by cytology and placed in the ambient bin for Molecular Diganostics.

Transport Temperature
Ship with ice pack during summer months.
Specimen Stability
- FFPE Block: No expiration, stored at room temperature.
- Nonbaked slides: 4 weeks prior to DNA extraction, stored atroom temperature
- Stained slides CANNOT be used for DNA extraction.
Methodology
