Instructions

Sample must be centrifuged within two hours of collection and put into aliquot tubes following centrifugation.

Clinical Significance

Useful For: Screening HIV-1 and/or HIV-2 infection
Testing Algorithm: HIV Combined Antigen/Antibody Screen results automatically trigger a CDC-compliant algorithm. All reactive/positive screens on adult patients will undergo HIV-1/-2 antibody confirmation testing and will incur an additional charge. For discrepant screening/confirmation results, further investigation is warranted and may include specimen recollection for PCR testing (recommended) or repeat antigen/antibody screening after several weeks. For patients less than 2 years of age, reactive/positive screens also require further investigation and specimen recollection for proviral DNA PCR.
