Test CodeLAB304752
Includes
Urine eosinophils; present orabsent
Preferred Specimen
Urine, random specimen in a clean plastic collection cup
Minimum Volume
10 mL urine
Instructions
MLS Processing:
- Collect a random urine specimen.
- Spin 10 mL of a random urine collection in centrifuge at 1800 rpm for 5 minutes. Pour off supernatant. Assess urine sediment for presence of white blood cells (WBC). If no WBCs are seen, the eosinophil test can't be performed. If WBCs are present, prepare slides using the spun sediment. A thin monolayer of slides should be observed on the slide. Dilution with normal saline may be required.
- Unstained slide should be prepared within 2 hours of collection.
- Centrifuge urine in cytospin centrifuge at speed of 1000 rpm for 5 minutes.
