Clinical Significance
Myoglobin is released into the bloodstream following injury to skeletal or cardiac muscle. We cannot distinguish origin for elevated myoglobin levels. Due to the lack of specificity, myoglobin is not recommended for diagnosis of myocardial injury (AMI).
