Heterotypic IgM andtibody responses may occur in patients infected with Epstein-Barr virus and CMV, leading to false positive results. If clinically indicated, additional testing for HSV IgM by IFA is recommended. It is not possible to distinguish between HSV-1 and HSV-2 with this test system. Positive values indicate a primary or reactivated infection with HSV-1 or HSV-2.
