Clinical Significance
This test is used to diagnose or monitor Celiac disease.  Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder caused by an inappropriate immune response to gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley.

Anti-Endomysial antibodies (EMA), IgA class detects antibodies to endomysium, the thin connective tissue layer that covers individual muscle fibers.
