Note: If the Total IgA result is low, Tissue Transglutaminase IgG and deamidated Gliadin IgG will be performed in place of Tissue Transglutaminase IgA, Endomysial IgA antibody and Deamidated Gliadin IgA.

Instructions
Centrifuge for complete separation of serum from red cells. Refrigerate or freeze WITHIN 2 HOURS of collection time.

Reference Range
IgA levels are normal and both TTG IgA and EMA IgA levels are within normal limits.
        
  • In low risk patients (<5% disease probability), celiac disease is effectively excluded.
  • In high risk patients (>5% disease probability), small bowel biopsy is recommended.
If histology is negative, celiac disease is excluded.  If histology is positive, HLADQ2 and DQ8 testing is recommended.

Note:  consider other causes for villous atrophy.


Clinical Significance
This panel of serologic studies facilitates the diagnosis of celiac disease and follows the recommendations of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).
