Instructions
Prepare smears within 1 hour of collection . Air dry slides. Once slides are dry, place in a slide holder.

EDTA whole blood submit refrigerated. If sample is left at room temperature for more than 1 hour, the parasite morphology can change and make definitive identification more difficult.

- Sample will reflex to ARUP #2004963 Malarial Detection and Speciation by PCR except for Illinois patients which will be submitted to the Illinois Department of Public Health for Malarial PCR testing.
