Clinical Significance
RSV infection exhibits a seasonality. RSV bronchiolitis and pneumonia are most evident during the months of November through March primarily affecting the newborn and infants <2 years of age. RSV is the predominant cause of pediatric pneumonia and acute bronchiolitis. It has also been implicated in apnea in infants, otitis media, and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.
