LIPID PANEL w/RFLX TO LDL DIRECT

Message

Test Code
LAB8544

CPT Codes
80061, 83721 (if direct LDL needed)

Includes
1.) Triglyceriders
2.) Total Cholesterol
3.) HDL Cholesterol
4.) LDL (Calculated)
5.) CHOL/HDL Ratio
6.) Non HDL
7.) VLDL

Note: LDL is calculated based on the Friedewald equation (LDL= Total Cholesterol - HDL Cholesterol - (Triglycerides/5)). This calculation is used when Triglycerides values are <400 mg/dL. For Triglycerides >400 mg/dL, a direct LDL measurement will be performed.

Preferred Specimen
Mint Green (Lithium Heparin with gel)

Patient Preparation
Fasting 12 hours

Minimum Volume
0.5mL

Other Acceptable Specimens
Gold (Serum Seperator Tube)

Instructions
Centrifuge for complete sparation of plasma or serum and red cells. Plasma must be removed from the cells within 3 hours of collection.

Transport Container

Setup Schedule
M, T, W, Th, F, Sa, Sun

Report Available
STAT= within 1 hour
Routine= within 4 hours

Reference Range
Triglyceride <150 mg/dL
Cholesterol <200 mg/dL
HDL >40 mg/dL
Non-HDL <130 mg/dL
LDL, Calculated 0-129 mg/dL
Cholesterol HDL Ratio = 5 mg/dL
VLDL, Calculated 5-30 mg/dL

Clinical Significance
Lipids are important part of cells and tissues, and they help keep human body working normally. However, lipid disorders, such as high cholesterol, may lead to life-threatening illnesses, such as coronary artery disease (CAD), heart attack, or stroke

Performing Laboratory
Mount Sinai Hospital
