Patient Preparation
A total of 3 specimens will be drawn.
- Draw fasting specimen
- Administer 75g oral glucose (Glucola) or dose specified by physician
- Draw specimen 1 hour after consumption of oral glucose (Glucola)
- Draw specimen 2 hours after consumption of oral glucose (Glucola)

Instructions
Centrifuge specimen immediately and separate serum or plasma from red cells to minimize the loss of gluocse through glycolysis.

Clinical Significance
Establish the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus in the pregnant patient. This test is a one step gestational glucose tolerance offered as an alternative to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynocology (ACOG) recommended two-step screening approach.
