Instructions
Must be collected by a different phlebotomist, than the one who drew the Type and Screen, or must use a tube coming from the Blood Bank.

Specimen Stability
Store at 1-6 °C if not tested immediately. Sample can be tested for up to three days after collection.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimen drawn in wrong tube; grossly hemolyzed specimen; improperly labeled; quantity not sufficient for analysis

Limitations
Blood Type must be confirmed with the new sample if the patient has no blood type record in the laboratory information system. Blood cannot be crossmatched and issued to the patient if the ABO Confirmation sample is not drawn. When blood is needed and the ABO Confirmation sample is not completed, emergency blood will be issued.
