Preferred Specimen
Metal-free container without preservative


Patient Preparation
Discard first morning urine on day of collection and note the time. Collect all urine voided during the next 24 hours. Refrigerate the urine during entire collection. See 24 hour collection instructions link below. 

Minimum Volume
10 mL aliquot (20 mL aliquot optimal)


Instructions
  • Mix the specimen well and measure the 24 hour volume
  • RECORD THE TOTATL VOLUME
  • Pour off 20 mL of urine into a separate plastic screw-cap container
  • Refrigerate if not tested immediately
  • Sample will be acidified with concentrated HCL to a pH of 1 prior to testing
