Gross Specimen Examination: All specimens recieved will receive a gross examination and description (type of material, gross details, unique characteristics, measurements).
Histology: Tissue cassettes are submitted to Alverno laboratories for processing in histology.
Microscopic Examination: Pathologist will read slides, do microscopic description and give a diagnosis.

Specimen Stability
Gross specimens are filed on shelves and retained for at least 2 weeks after final report has been signed out.

The final diagnosis should be supported by gross findings, and if included, microscropic findings. Specialized studies (immunohistochemisty, gene rearrangement, flow cytometry) will be included in the comment or as an addendum.
