Preferred Specimen
13 mL serum collected in a red-top tube (no gel)
3 mL whole blood collected in an EDTA (lavender-top) tube and
1 mL serum/plasma collected in a SST (red-top) tube


Patient Preparation
Specimen collection after fluorescein dye angiography should be delayed for at least 3 days. For patients on hemodialysis, specimen collection should be delayed for 2 weeks. According to the assay manufacturer Siemens: Samples containing fluorescein can produce falsely depressed values when tested with the ADVIA Centaur TSH3 Ultra assay.

Minimum Volume
Serum/plasma SST (red-top): 0.5 mL
Whole blood: 1.5 mL
Serum red-top (no gel): 6.5 mL


Instructions
Whole blood from full EDTA (lavender-top) tube. See individual assays. *Unable to add Insulin testing unless sample was submitted frozen.
