Instructions
1-3 mL bone marrow in transport medium or 3-5 mL whole blood in a sodium heparin tube (green top, dark/royal blue top, tan top). Formalin fixed paraffin embedded tumor biopsy.

Clinical Significance
Rearrangements of the T-cell receptor alpha/delta TRA/D are recurrent in both mature and immature T-cell neoplasms. Many of these TRA/D rearrangements are cryptic at the conventional cytogenetic level and therefore are detected mainly by molecular testing and FISH. The majority of these rearrangements are translocations that juxtapose a transcription factor gene to the TRA/D locus leading to its aberrant expression in developing thymocytes.
