Clinical Significance
Patients with hepatobiliary disease or damage exhibit increased concentrations of Total bilirubin. Many drugs can impair or damage liver function. Direct bilirubin measurement and Indirect bilirubin calculation provides additional information concerning the etiology of an increased Total bilirubin concentration. Often, the fractions are more sensitive than the Total bilirubin measurement.
