Preferred Specimen
1 mL (x7) serum collected in a red-top tube (no gel) and 2 mL (x7) serum collected in an SST (red-top) tube
Patient Preparation
Overnight fasting is required
Minimum Volume
SST: 1 mL (x7)
Red-top (no gel): 0.2 mL (x7)
Red-top (no gel): 0.2 mL (x7)
Instructions
For each timed interval, collect 1 SST for Glucose and Growth Hormone, and 1 no-gel red-top tube for Cortisol. Each tube must be clearly marked with time drawn. Submit all tubes with one test request form.
Draw baseline fasting specimens. Administer glugagon. Draw remaining specimens at designated time intervals. Glucagon is not supplied nor administered by Quest Diagnostics, Incorporated, Nichols Institute. Spin all SST to separate the serum within a hour of draw.
