Instructions
Stability of isolates will be determined by the laboratory. Organism must be viable. Test is only applicable to Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pnuemoniae, Klebsiella oxytoca, and Proteus mirabilis isolates.

Clinical Significance
Organisms producing ESBLs may be clinically resistant to therapy with penicillins, cephalosporins, or aztreonam, despite apparent in vitro susceptibility to some of these agents if only routine susceptibility testing is performed.
