Clinical Significance
Polyclonal immunoglobulin light chains (kappa and labmda) normally occur in a ratio of 2:1, whereas monoclonal immunoglobulin light chains exhibit only one type of light chain, either kappa or lambda. A kappa:lambda ratio outside of 2:1 is an indication of monoclonal gammopathy.
