Preferred Specimen
1 nasopharyngeal swab collected in 3 mL VCM, M4 media, M4RT or equivalent
Minimum Volume
1 swab in 0.5 mL transport
Instructions
Collect NPS specimens with a nylon swab and place into universal transport media or universal viral transport media.
Quest Diagnostic Patient Service Centers and Quest in-office phlebotomists do not collect respiratory specimens, including those from patients suspected to have COVID-19.
Note: Samples frozen at -70° C may undergo up to 2 freeze/thaw cycles prior to testing with the LIAISON PLEX® Respiratory Flex Assay.

Clinical Significance
The detection and identification of specific viral nucleic acids from individuals exhibiting signs and symptoms of respiratory infection aids in the diagnosis of respiratory viral infection.
The respiratory virus panel is used for the detection of the following respiratory viruses:
Adenovirus
SARS-CoV-2
Rhinovirus/Enterovirus
Influenza A
Influenza A Subtypes H1
Influenza A Subtypes H3
Influenza B
Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV)
Human Parainfluenza Virus (HPIV) 1
Human Parainfluenza Virus (HPIV) 2
Human Parainfluenza Virus (HPIV) 3
Human Parainfluenza Virus (HPIV) 4
Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus (HRSV) A/B
The results of this assay should be used in conjunction with other clinical and laboratory findings.
