Clinical Significance
Boron is used in glass, enamel and glaze production. It is also found in herbicides, insecticides, soaps, cosmetics and antifreeze. Boron is one of the most commonly found substances in hazardous waste sites. Toxic symptoms are usually associated with ingestion and can include extensive exfoliative dermatitis followed by massive desquamation (sloughing) of the skin, nausea, persistent vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.
