CHROMOSOME ANALYSIS, CONSTITUTIONAL BLOOD, WITH REFLEX TO GENOMIC MICROARRAY

Test Code
LAB2005763

Includes
If Chromosome analysis is normal, then Chromosomal Microarray, Postnatal, ClariSure® Oligo-SNP will be performed at an additional charge (CPT code(s): 81229)

Preferred Specimen
10 mL whole blood collected in a sodium heparin (green-top) tube

Minimum Volume
5 mL

Other Acceptable Specimens
Sodium heparin (royal blue-top) tube • Sodium heparin lead-free (tan-top) tube

Transport Container
Sodium heparin (green-top) tube

Transport Temperature
Room temperature

Specimen Stability
Specimen viability decreases during transit. Send specimen to testing lab for viability determination. Do not freeze. Do not reject.

Methodology
Culture • Karyotype • Microscopy

Reflex: Oligo-SNP Array

Setup Schedule
Daily

Report Available
Chromosome: 10 days (if needed, Array: 7 days later)

Clinical Significance
Chromosome analysis can be used to help determine genetic causes of intellectual disability, developmental delay, congenital anomalies, infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, and ambiguous genitalia. Chromosome analysis does not rule out cryptic or submicroscopic chromosome abnormalities. If this analysis is normal, microarray will be performed for the detection of submicroscopic deletions and duplications and long continuous regions of homozygosity.
