5 mL whole blood in Green Top Tube (Sodium or Lithium Heparin) and 6 unfixed, well-prepared smears

Minimum Volume
1 mL whole blood and 6 smears

Transport Container
Green top tube & smears - Protect both from light

Transport Temperature
Room Temperature

Specimen Stability
Send Sunday through Thursday only. Whole blood must be received within 24 hours of collection. Smears must be made within 24 hours of collection and received within 7 days of collection. 

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Speicmens collected in EDTA. Poorly prepared (too thick or no feathered edge), broken or fixed smears. Specimens that have been spun. Smears made from anything other than heparin. Smears made from blood older than 24 hours. Whole blood not protected from light. Smears not protected from light. Specimen received in transport temperature other than room temperature.
