Microbiology Specimen Collection Guide

Instructions

Collect specimen using BBL Culture Swab Collection & Transport System (green cap w LQ Stuart media).
Insert a np swab containing a dry tip into 1 nostril and into the nasopharyngeal area.
Press swab gently against the nasal wall to allow swab to absorb secretions.
Rotate swab 2 to 3 times and withdraw. Place swab in liquid stuarts transport media.
Label container with two patient identifiers (full name, DOB or MR) and date and time of collection.
Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
