Fresh Stool: 1 ml


Instructions

A copy of the Stool Collection Patient Instructions (located under laboratory information) should be given to the outpatient or as follows:

  • Submit fresh stool screw top sterile container.
  • Send specimen refrigerated.
  • Label container (not the lid) with two patient identifiers (full name, DOB or MR) and date and time of collection.
  • Forward promptly.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
  • Formed stools are unacceptable for Clostriudium difficile testing.
  • Fecal specimens in Formalin-based fixative (e.g. sodium acetate formalin, 10% formalin, merthiolate formalin)
  • Fecal specimens in alcohol-based fixative (e.g. polyvinyl alcohol)
