A culture will be completed if the microscopic exam shows  ≥ 10 WBC/hpf or the dipstick shows moderate or large leukocyte esterase and /or positive nitrites.

Order a Urinalysis, Culure if Indicated.




Specimen Stability
24 HR unpreserved urine (refrigerated storage only)
72 HR UA preservative tube (room temperature or refrigerated storage)
48 HR culture tube (room temperature or refrigerated storage)


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Urine submitted in non-sterile plastic container, etc.
Urine submitted in pickle jar, resealable plastic container, etc.
Urine unpreserved at room temperature greater than 1 hour
