Urine dipstick test will be performed. If reflex criteria are met, a microscopic exam will be completed. If the microscopic exam reflex criteria are met, a culture will be completed.

Sterile container OR UA culture tube (gray top tube) AND UA preservative tube (red/yellow)

Specimen Stability

24 HR unpreserved urine (refrigerated storage only)
72 HR UA preservative tune (room temperature or refrigerated storage)
48 HR UA culture tube (room temperature or refrigerated storage)




Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)

Urine submitted in non-sterile container
Urine submitted in pickle jar, resealable plastic container, etc.
Urine unpreserved at room temperature greater than 1 hour
