5 mL whole blood collected in a sodium heparin (green-top) tube
Patient Preparation
Have patient fast for 12-14 hours
Note: The patient should be off medications, if possible for at least 1 week. Water may be taken as needed. No other liquids are allowed. Patient should abstain from alcohol for 24 hours.
Instructions
Draw blood in a sodium heparin (green-top) tube and send 5 mL (pediatric 2 mL) refrigerated. Specimen cannot be frozen.
