Preferred Specimen
Urethral, cervical, anorectal, throat or conjunctiva. Collect specimen using a culture swab in Amies gel (blue-cap) or ESwab (white-cap) transport medium delivered within 24 hours of collection.

Inoculated medium (Martin-Lewis plate or Neigon plate)
Instructions
Do not refrigerate. Indicate source of specimen on both the requisition and specimen collection device. For blood specimens, use test "Culture, Blood". For sterile body fluids, use test "Culture, Aerobic and Anaerobic".

Clinical Significance
