Instructions
The dose for gestational diabetes assessment is 50 grams.
  
Gray top tube (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate), serum separator tube (gold top), or  plain red top tube  is collected  1 hour following the dose.

Transport Container
 If gray top tube (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate) transport whole blood. Centrifuge the serum separator tube and transport; if a plain red top tube, centrifuge and aliquot serum into a standard transport tube.  Clearly identify tube as 1 hour collection.

Transport Temperature
Refrigerated.

Specimen Stability
For Gray top tube only: Ambient Whole blood: 24 hours; After separation from cells for plasma or serum: Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: 7 days; Frozen: Acceptable for longer storage

For abnormal GTTOB1 result, ACOG recommends that Gestational Glucose Tolerance test be performed to diagnose diabetes. Therefore, it is suggested that the GTTOB3, Glucose Tolerance, OB, 3 hours, 100 gram (ACOG): 1003251 be ordered.

The gestational diabetes glucose screen test measures the body's response to a glucose dose for diagnosis of gestational diabetes.
