Transport Container
Centrifuge specimen and pour over 2 mL serum into a trace element-free transport tube (Available from Client Services supply #43116). (Min: 1 mL)


Transport Temperature
Ambient.


Specimen Stability
After separation from cells: Ambient: 5 days; Refrigerated: 10 days; Frozen: 21 days

Limitations
Tests performed on a specimen submitted in a non-trace element tube/container (non-acid washed) may not accurately reflect the patient's level. If a non-trace element tube/container is received, it will be accepted for testing. However, elevated results shall be reported with a message that re-submission with a trace element tube/container is recommended.

less than or equal to 1.4 mcg/L


Clinical Significance
Occupational exposure and exposure to environmental contamination of Chromium may lead to toxicity. The need for Chromium supplements is unproven. Supplements taken in excess may also lead to Chromium toxicity.
