Instructions
Materials needed:
ThinPrep Preservcyte collection vial along with a Plastic Spatula/Brush combination OR Broom collection device.

Collection:

Ayre Spatula--Scrape the ectocervical area around the endocervical os with the ayre spatula using a rotating motion. Rinse the end of the spatula in the Preservcyte vial by agitating in fixative to remove material from the spatula.
Endocervical Brush--Using the endocervical brush insert the brush tip into the endocervical canal and rotate one half to one complete turn. Rinse the brush tip in the Preservcyte vial by agitating and pressing the brush bristles against the side of the vial to remove material from the brush.

OR

Broom--Insert the long bristles into the endocervical canal until the shorter bristles contact the extocervical surface. Rotate the broom device in a clockwise direction only, one complete turn. Rinse the broom device in the Preservcyte vial by agitating and pressing the bristles against the sides of the collection vial to remove material from the broom.


Transport Container
After collection of the sample into the Preservcyte vial, place the lid on the vial and secure until the lid is tight and the black reference marks on the lid align or pass the reference marks on the vial. Place the patient's first and last name on the vial along with date of birth and source of the specimen. Place the vial in a plastic specimen bag along with a completed requisition for transport to the laboratory.

ThinPrep and Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) based on Roche Cobas 4800 HPV Real-Time PCR

HPV: Tuesday & Thursday & Saturday
