Instructions
Specimen Collection:
See “Pinworm Prep Collection Instructions” in “Special Instructions” for slide preparation.
1. Collect specimen in early-morning before patient arises and before bowel movement or bathing. Alternately, specimen can be collected after patient has been sleeping for at least 1 hour.
2. Hold slide against a tongue depressor.
3. Peel back tape from slide by pulling on “tab” leaving small edge of tape attached to back side of slide.
4. Loop tape over end of depressor to expose sticky surface.
5. Spread anal folds.
6. Touch sticky side of tape to skin around anus.
7. Immediately reapply sticky side of tape to microscope slide.
8. Smooth tape with cotton or gauze.
9. Place slide into a cardboard slide mailer and submit to laboratory.
10. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), Social Security number or date of birth (inpatients: medical record number), date and time of collection, collector’s initials, and type of specimen.
