Clinical Significance
The BD Affirm VPIII Microbial Identification test is intended for use in the detection and identification of Candida species, Gardnerella vaginalis and Trichomonas vaginalis nucleic acids in the vaginal fluid specimen from patients with symptoms of vaginitis / vaginosis. 25% or more of vaginal infections are mixed infections which are frequently missed by microscopy. The test is a non-amplified DNA probe test based on the principles of nucleic acid hybridization.
