The enteric stool pathogen molecular panel by nucleic acid test looks for the nine most common causes of diarrhea including the following Campylobacter group (C. coli, C. jejuni, and C. lari), Salmonella species, Shigella species (including S. dysenteriae, S. boydii, S. sonnei, and S. flexneri), Vibrio Group (V. cholerae and V. parahaemolyticus), Yersinia enterocolitica, Shiga Toxin 1 and 2, Norovirus (GI and GII)
Rotavirus (A).
Uncommon organisms that can cause diarrhea, Plesiomonas species, Aeromonas species, and Bacillus cereus are currently not tested by molecular PCR. If you suspect infection by these organisms (history of travel, shellfish ingestion), please contact the Regions Hospital microbiology laboratory to add on a culture for these organism(s).
Rotavirus (A).
