Instructions
Separate plasma( preferred) or serum (acceptable) from whole blood within 24 hours of collection by centrifugation at 800-1600 x g for 20 minutes are room temperature. Transfer the plasma to a properly identified, sterile, polypropylene screw-cap vial and ship refrigerated or frozen.

Clinical Significance
Hepatitis C genotype is a predictor of response to interferon alfa-2b (non-type 1 are better responders) and to combination therapy with interferon and ribavirin (all types respond but dosage and duration of treatment is dependent on genotype; type 1 requires extended treatement).
