Clinical Significance
Treponemal Result (TRPAB | Non-Treponemal Result (RPR) | Report/Interpretation for all except Neonates and infants |
Negative | Non-Reactive | No serological evidence of infection with Treponemal pallidum (incubating or early primary syphillis cannot be excluded) |
Negative | Reactive | Current infection unlikely; probability of biological false positives secondary to other medical conditions (febrile diseases, immunizations, IVDU, autoimmune diseases, etc) Recommend repeat testing (Non-treponemal and treponemal by other test methods) |
Prelim | Non-Reactive | Probably past infection or potential cross reactivity with other spirochetes/related antigens; additional testing appropriate to clinical findings/history; possibility of false negative non-treponemal due to prozone or late syphilis or neurosyphilis. |
Prelim | Reactive | Presumptive evidence of current infection (or inadequately treated infection, persisitent infection, reinfection, or biological false positive if prior history) additional testing consistent with clinical assesment |
Not Done | Non-reactive | Current infection unlikely; effectively treated infection if previous diagnosis and treatment |
