Clinical Significance
The FIT test (fecal immunochemical) is a test that will be used for colorectal cancer screening for patients who initially refuse colonoscopy. The FIT test does not require any dietary or medication restrictions for patients and will specifically detect the presence of human blood from the colon. The FIT test replaced the Hemoccult cards for colorectal cancer screening, however, the Hemoccult cards will still be used to rule out a potential upper GI bleed, which the FIT test will not detect
