Clinical Significance
This RealTime HCV assay is a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay for the quantitation of the Hepatitis C virus. It tests over a linear range of 12 – 100,000,000 IU/ml (1.08 – 8.0 log IU/ml) and is approved to report detectable levels below 12 IU/ml. This assay is FDA-approved to detect HCV Genotypes 1 – 6. Based on guidelines recommended by the CDC, the HCV PCR Quant test may be ordered as an additional reflex test for patients found to be Positive (Reactive) for Hepatitis C Antibody. The results from the HCV PCR Quant assay must be interpreted within the context of all relevant clinical and laboratory findings. It is intended for use as an aid in the management of HCV-infected patients undergoing antiviral therapy.
